I would have Fergal Conway at 6. He has the physicality to stop drives through the middle (which has cost us dearly on so many occasions). He would have the nous to know when to hold position and when to join the attack. I just don't think we are getting the best out of him as a half-forward. I'm feeling confident Glenn and the lads are going to transform the way this team operates. In a strange sort of way though, i wish they were starting a season in Div 2 ! Trying to land on your feet running, changing mindsets, and adapting to a different style of play which (judging on Sat) could possibly include a full press, will be very tough against hardened Div 1 teams. Time will tell !!!

I think Conway is a decent shout for centre back... my only reservation is whether or not he would have the discipline to play that role. I don't mean discipline as in fouling, I mean would he be able to stop himself trying to be all things to all men?? He does have a tendency towards that, there's a bit of a God complex in him I'd say.

BTW, I presume that comment about him being good in 2018 was taking the piss??
He was nominated for an All Star in 2018. He has not been able to play a full season since because of injuries. He's had groin, shoulder and ankle injuries since (I might be forgetting other injuries). He missed all of 2019, the majority of 2020, and last year's championship. I was saying it's great to see him back after a three-year nightmare and wishing him the best for the season ahead. Why would you think any of that was taking the p*ss?

I genuinely thought you were messing because 2018 was 4 years ago!! In my opinion, 4 years is too far back to have to go looking for form. Also, poor decision making is his biggest issue and that isn't really related to injuries.
Anyway I'm sure he'll be given chances and, as with O'Grady and others, no doubt there's scope there for him to improve.

Ah yeah no bother I’m obviously not saying it’s relevant form for now was just saying that in response to someone else saying his reputation as a good player is unwarranted

Thanks for posting. Jimmy took his scores very very well in fairness off both feet.
Is there an overall panel yet or will there be a raft of lads in and out this next week or two?

A number of lads playing Sigerson this week so will likely be unavailable for Thursday's game v Carlow. You'd be hopeful we'll win that and that will see us progress to the knock-out stages which are next week. Have to think that the panel will be left as is until we exit this competition.

I know this isn't a Sigerson thread but watched Shea Ryan on the worst stream and commentary of all time at fullback for DCU tonight, he was excellent. Looked very assured and good on the ball.
Some collapse from IT Carlow, leading 1-11 to 0-10 at 60 mins but concede 1-3 in 5 injury time minutes to lose to Letterkenny IT. Crazy.

Team to play Carlow has been named as follows;
1. Tom Kinsella 2. David Randles 3. Michael Joyce 4. Ryan Houlihan 5. David Hyland 6. James Murray 7. Darragh Malone 8. Kevin O’Callaghan 9. Kevin Flynn 10. Davy O’Neill 11. Paul Cribbin 12. Padraig Tuohy 13. Paddy Woodgate 14. Daniel Flynn 15. Eoghan Lawless
Nice mix of experience and new faces again. Looking forward to seeing Randles, Joyce, O’Neill & Lawless from the beginning.

Interesting to see Glenn picking James Murray at centre back.... a whole hearted honest player who you can rely on 100%. WIll be interested to see how he goes. Also Lawless, looked a bit green last week but has a fearless attitude.

Yeah, it had almost passed me by that James Murray was back in the panel. 2019 was maybe the last time he was involved ? My memory may be playing tricks on me but when he had his run in the team I seem to remember him playing more on the wing rather than in the middle ? (which I don't think suited him) It's a massive problem position so it's worth a shot putting him there. Good luck to him.

Are there any in jeprody of missing the opening leage game?
Agreed Cilldara71, Murray is an out and out centre back in my opinion and hopefully Glenn will help him develop (although I'm not sure what age he is now??) When Glenn took the U21's to an All Ireland final he had Chauky White playing out of his skin at centre back.

I'd say Murray is 28-29 so probably his last chance you would imagine

Looking forward to this game tonight. If Kildare play with the same hunger as last week i think we will beat Carlow by Double Figures. We need goals too. None against Westmeath.

I am a big fan of Murray but he does need to be in one place where he is best. It didn't suit him on the wings in fairness.
Eoin Doyle is someone we are almost forgetting about for the half back line or even as a floater inside mopping up seeing as not many teams leave three inside.
McDermott was class all year for Naas too and has serious legs. That is the thing that could allow K Flynn to stay in the middle as the runner.
Looking forward to tuning in later!
It is great that the Naas lads are such a bonus for Glenn and the lads.
