| I would have to disagree with you saying you can carry bad backs with a good forwards..You can have your scoring forwards but if there are scores going in at the other end of the pitch your going to struggle no matter how good you think the forwards are.. all it would take is for one or two of these ''5 quality forwards'' not to show up on the night and kildare could have a major struggle on their hands | |

- Snowman i have to disagree with your comment..I think if you have the best players at your disposal you should use them and its safe to say that this isn't the case with the kildare team for tomorrows night match..there are far better players on the bench and even not in the panel than what are on the first 15...
Also how many of the starting 15 have actually won any major competition, apart from sean campbell winning a minor championship in '07 i dont no of any of the others winning anything...surely to be a success you need to have players who know how to win the big games and have the experience on winning trophies.. Des Holton and Sean Hurley won the U21 championship with Balyna in 2009. Des captained edenderry to a Leinster Colleges Senior Football A title in 2009 with Sean also playing a major part on the team they then narrowly missed out on winning an All-Ireland title that year. All the best to all the lads tomorrow.

- The back line named could be in for a torrid time as only campbell, holton and comerford capable of performing at this standard and with this saying in mind ''you can carry bad backs but you cant carry bad forwards'' this startin 15 has 5 quality forwards that will carry them over the line.

| [quote="snowman"]Jaysus lads, nobody knows what has gone on in the last 5 months or so of training and matches.. so to say "this lad should be starting" or "there isnt enough athy lads on the team" a week before the championship starts is a bit presumptuous. There are a number of reasons a guy gets picked for any team, ie skill, form, discipline, attitude, fitness, work rate, injuries to others etc etc... nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. There seems to be a an under current of hoping that barry fails in my opinion. lets get behind the team and managment and hopefully we can get over wexford and kick on from there. Im sure everyone who is in the panel are there on merit and have put in a massive effort over the sh*tty winter months and deserve better than statements like "surely there are better around" [/quote Well said Snowman. How many 'experts' here actually watch the u21's train, go to ALL their friendlies?? My guess - none. So how can you say who should be starting when you don't have all the information. Hell of a diff between club and county. Some lads are very good at club but when it comes to the more regimented style of county football it just doesn't suit them. Also just cos Athy have been dominant at a different age group doesn't mean thay should have any starters. Every u21 team in the county probably has at least one outstanding player so why should Athy lads have spots reserved for them. At county level you must earn your place, it isn't set aside for you. I'm not saying any player should or shouldn't be starting, but I would imagine Barry and co put out the team they feel deserve to start/are fully fit. Best of luck lads!! | |

- Cian Reynolds should be on the u21 team.....no ifs or buts....he should be on it. But as usual the south of Kildare is again by passed. And the only Athy lad picked is on a UCD soccer scholership and could be stopped from playing if the college need him for soccer.
Not only does feely have a scholarship but he was a sub for Bohs in the Airtricity League last week. He surely won't be able to keep up soccer and GAA at this level for much longer, I'm amazed he has been able to so far, something will have to give. I agree about Reynolds. It's strange that a lad is good enough for the 21's when he is just out of minor but when you think he'd a bit stronger and better a year later, he is left out. Same for Mulhall, I really can't believe he isn't playing. I know he has been injured but the word is that he is fit and if so it's some shock not to see him on the team. I was half expecting him to make a late charge to make the senior panel this year.
